Torrent downloading for Dummies
The common computer downloader, misses out on so much by not knowing about torrents and torrent downloading, so in the next few minutes I will guide you through torrents from beginning to end.
What is a Torrent?
A torrent is pretty much a little package that contains information about connecting to a tracker. A tracker is a website that stores the information about the users downloading/uploading the specific file you are downloading.
Where do I get a Torrent?
There are several great sources for torrents. My favorites are: mininova, meganova, isohunt, and torrentspy. -as “recamended” by ROHANMOWSTHELAWN, I will add demonoid.com to the list. Contact him here for invite codes.
How do I download a Torrent?
There are several bittorrent clients out there. My favorite, is uTorrent.
How do I install uTorrent?
There is no installation for uTorrent. when you download it, you should be able to run the .exe and have it work perfectly.
How do I configure uTorrent?
Configuring uTorrent is very important if you want to download anything fast. start by clicking options-speed guide… (or ctrl+g). Then click the button to run the speed test. go through the process of finding your internet speed. Once you know the speed, select that in the connection type. If you cant figure out your speed just go with “xx/512K”. Next you must setup port forwarding. This is very important, port forwarding will greatly increase your downloaded speed. type a number in the port number box then procede to my next question.
How do I configure Port Forwarding?
As said earlier this is very important and should not be missed. so I will guide you through it very slowly.
- go to portforward.com and select the guide for your internet router (the thing your ethernet cable plugs into).
- test the port in the speed guide to see if you completed the guide correctly. If it still doesn’t work and you are sure you followed the guide correctly, it is likely you have a second router that your router is plugged into so you will need to follow the guide for that router to forward to the router your computer is plugged into. (also, to find your pc’s ip address, click start-run- type “cmd” - in the command prompt (that window that just opened) type “ipconfig” - it is the one listed under ip. your router ip is the one listed next to gateway.)
- click “Use Selected Settings”
Now what?
Now that your bittorrent client is all setup and ready to go, go to one of the sources listed above and search the thing you want to download. when a list of that item comes up, pick the one with the most seeds (click on “seeds” and it will sort the list by the amount of seeds), the more seeds (uploaders) the faster you will download. When you click on the link to the torrent file, it will open the file in uTorrent and ask where you want to save the file to, select a place and wait as your file downloads.
Its slow?
As said earlier, some torrents dont have very many seeds (uploaders), so you will download very slow. if you have a lot of seeders be sure to check you speed settings spoken about above in “How do I configuring uTorrent?” -as ernesto kindly corrected, “it’s not all about seeds, you have to look for the seed/ peer ratio.”
Speed up uTorrent with Tweaks.
If you just arent satisfied with the download speed of uTorrent, try a few of these tweaks.
Torrents are great for downloading your favorite TV shows, so stay tuned for a guide on how to make uTorrent automatically download new episodes of your favorite TV show…
Are you looking for a new host for your exchange server? Intermedia.net has many different hosting packages such as Microsoft exchange hosting, business email hosting, and ColdFusion hosting. Choosing your company’s web host is very important aspect of your company because if your exchange server host goes down even for minutes it could potentially lose you sales.

hi’ the info about the torrent speeds is incorrect
it’s not all about seeds, you have to look for the seed/ peer ratio.
Hey, thanks for the info. I be sure to edit that bit of information right now. I was just trying to keep it simple.

Hi There!
Thanks for your help in Torrents, I did it all with just your article! I have two questions, one is personal and one business.
Personal: I used UTorrent to download COD4 but, after the install and such, I can’t get it to run since it keeps asking me to insert the DVD Rom (which is already inserted). What am I missing?
Secondly: Do you do have time to dedicate to website design and management? I have MANY customers who really need to help, let me know your thoughts on this at your discretion. I’m from Canada, own a consuting business and I keep turning customers’s web requests away daily@! Perhaps we can both profit from this while adding a good service for our customers.
Let me know andf thanks again!
