MySpace 2.0ize

written Mar 31st, 2006 @ 6:38pm | kinda like: News, Technology, Projects, Myspace 2.0ize

While I was relaxing in mexico, I came up with an idea.
MySpace is ugly, hate to say it, but its true. Anyway, after creating my new overlay (http://myspace.com/jamaier) that looks like a 2.0 version of MySpace, I decided it would be a good idea to publish this idea for use by all myspacers. The page would be made in PHP and would offer a variety of options and then output the necessary code and a guide on where to put the sections of code.
Planned Features include:

  • Changable background image
  • Changable background and foreground color
  • Changable friend images
  • Changable headers and div order
  • Changable header image (host your own or chose from 5)
  • Changable links (amount included)
  • Changable font

Also, if this popular enough I plan to add a “pro” option, where you pay a small amount of money for a year of dynamic content. what would happen is you provide your myspace username and password and we would use our server to update your profile every 24 hours with content from places such as:

  • del.icio.us (a list of your latest links)
  • fickr (automatically upload pictures with a certain tag to your myspace pictures section)
  • uTube (automatically upload the latest video with a certain tag)
  • RSS Feeds (this could be stuff from your own blog for using myspace as a personal blog.)

Anyway, let me know if you are interested in this idea, and i will start coding it as soon as I get home from Mexico, also, any help would be great.
edit: I’ve just been told the layout doesnt look web 2.0 at all, and i just wanted to clarify that this layout is a very bland just to show the general layout. The fancy colors, big fonts, are left for the user to chose.

Update: The project has started and is near completion

Update: The Beta of the project has been completed

Hm, really. I just tried it out right now, seems to be working fine. The ads arent covered, so they have no reason to delete the profile. Try it again when you have a chance. If it still doesnt work for you, I will upload a picture.

Justin says:

404 for me as well.
